An Introduction From Our New CEO
My name is Anthony Miranda, and it is with tremendous excitement and gratitude that I introduce myself as the new Chief Executive Officer of Love Our Pets & Vets.
Accepting this role is an incredible honor and a responsibility I do not take lightly. I am excited not only for the opportunity to lead this organization, but also for the responsibilities and obstacles that come with it. I believe meaningful change requires compassion, determination, a clear sense of direction, and a willingness to take on goals that may initially seem bigger than ourselves. I am ready to do exactly that.
Before speaking about where we are going, I believe it is important to recognize where we came from. I want to express my sincere respect and gratitude to Cheryl Eckert, the original founder and previous CEO of Love Our Pets & Vets. This organization and the cause I now have the privilege of helping lead would not exist without her compassion, dedication, and willingness to turn an idea into something capable of making a difference in the lives of veterans and animals.
Cheryl established the groundwork upon which Love Our Pets & Vets stands today, and I am grateful for the trust that comes with carrying her work forward. As we enter this next era, my intention is not to lose sight of what this organization was founded to accomplish, but to build upon what Cheryl created, broaden our reach, and pursue new ways of serving people and animals in need. I am proud to continue the work she began and hope to honor that legacy through everything we accomplish in the years ahead.
As one of my first actions as CEO, I have begun broadening both the purpose and reach of Love Our Pets & Vets. While our dedication to veterans and companion animals will always remain at the heart of who we are, we are extending our efforts to include individuals and families experiencing homelessness while maintaining our dedication to those who have served our country.
As part of that growth, Love Our Pets & Vets has expanded into Kern County. This gives us the chance to serve new communities, develop meaningful partnerships, and bring our programs to more people and animals who can benefit from them. At the same time, we have every intention of continuing our work throughout Los Angeles County. Our move into Kern County is not a departure from the communities we have served. Rather, it represents the next step toward creating a wider network capable of making an impact across both counties and, one day, potentially beyond them.
Our long-term goals are ambitious. We hope to eventually acquire our own property and establish a dedicated facility that can serve as both a place of refuge and a place of new beginnings. We envision a location capable of providing temporary housing and essential services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, including veterans, while also operating as a shelter and adoption center for stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals.
What we hope to accomplish goes beyond simply providing temporary shelter. We want to create an environment where people and animals receive meaningful care, resources, and a path forward. Our ultimate goal is to provide in-house medical care for our human residents and in-house veterinary care for the animals entrusted to us, allowing us to address the needs of both under one roof.
We also hope to foster an environment where the relationship between people and animals can become part of the healing process. Someone working to rebuild their life may find companionship, responsibility, comfort, and purpose through an animal that is also waiting for a second chance. In turn, an animal that may have been abandoned, neglected, or forgotten can receive attention, affection, stability, and the possibility of becoming part of a loving home.
That bond represents the very idea at the heart of Love Our Pets & Vets. Sometimes two lives in need of a second chance can help heal one another.
We recognize that an undertaking of this size will not become reality overnight. Acquiring property, developing a facility, growing our programs, securing sustainable funding, and building the necessary infrastructure will require significant time, resources, and dedication. It will take volunteers, donors, community partners, local businesses, medical and veterinary professionals, and people who believe in what we are working to accomplish.
Every meaningful change, however, has to begin somewhere. Ours begins with everything that has already been built and a belief in what Love Our Pets & Vets can become.
As CEO, I am committed to respecting the legacy Cheryl Eckert created while guiding this organization toward its next stage of growth. There will undoubtedly be obstacles along the way, but the people and animals we hope to serve are worth the effort.
Our future is about more than animal rescue. It is about more than veteran support. It is about building communities where people experiencing hardship can find stability, animals without homes can find safety, and both can be given the care, dignity, compassion, and resources they deserve to begin again.
I could not be more excited to take this next step, and I look forward to sharing our progress, challenges, milestones, and successes with all of you as we work together to turn these goals into reality.
To everyone who has supported Love Our Pets & Vets, volunteered their time, donated, shared our story, or simply believed in what this organization can accomplish, thank you. Your involvement allows us to dream bigger, reach further, and continue growing the work that started it all.
And to Cheryl Eckert, thank you for having the compassion to begin this journey and for creating something that has made everything ahead of us possible. It is an honor to carry what you started forward.
This is the beginning of a new era for Love Our Pets & Vets, and I am honored to have the opportunity to help shape what comes next.
