At Love Our Pets & Vets, we believe companionship can change the direction of a life.
Our work today is focused on helping military veterans find companion animals in need of loving homes. We believe that connection can bring comfort, routine, purpose, and belonging to a veteran while giving an animal the chance to become part of a safe and caring home.
That is where our mission began, but it is not where we intend for it to end.
As Love Our Pets & Vets grows, we are working toward a much larger goal: helping people experiencing homelessness rebuild their lives while creating more space, care, and opportunity for animals in need.
A major part of that future is M.O.T.H., which stands for Man Of The House, our planned transitional housing program.
Our goal is to eventually build a campus capable of housing at least 100 people, with space for approximately 50 men and 50 women. M.O.T.H. is intended to be more than a place to stay. Residents will have a stable environment while they work toward employment, financial independence, and permanent housing.
Employment will remain a central expectation of the program. Residents who are able to work will be required to actively seek and maintain employment. Whenever possible, we also plan to create paid opportunities directly on the property so residents can earn income, gain experience, and help support the day-to-day operation of the campus.
Those pursuing outside employment will be provided with available job resources, information, and connections to opportunities in the community.
The other major part of the property will be a dedicated animal shelter with room for approximately 200 dogs and 200 cats. Dogs and cats will have separate buildings designed around their specific needs, along with secure outdoor enrichment areas for exercise, socialization, and play.
We also plan for both sides of the campus to have their own medical facilities. M.O.T.H. will include access to in-house medical care for residents, while the animal shelter will have its own veterinary facility for examinations, preventative care, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Although the human and animal programs will operate in their own dedicated spaces, they will share the same larger purpose: creating second chances.
We know this is a massive undertaking. Housing 100 people, caring for 400 animals, building specialized facilities, creating employment opportunities, hiring qualified staff, and operating a campus of this size will take significant funding, strong partnerships, careful planning, and years of work.
We do not expect it to happen quickly.
There will be challenges, setbacks, and plenty to learn along the way, but we are committed to seeing this mission through for as long as it takes.
Love Our Pets & Vets began by bringing veterans and companion animals together. Now we are working toward something larger: a place where veterans can find companionship, people experiencing homelessness can rebuild their lives, animals can find safety and permanent homes, and both can be given another chance to move forward.
